Getting there
He is an optional encounter on the Meigu Lake island route — reached by boat, not on the critical path. A bell-by-bell route is not written up here yet.
Moves and how to answer them

The arena-wide laser. He plants in the centre and fires — the beams fan out from a single point instead of sweeping, so the gaps are widest at the arena edge. That is why the answer is positional: get out before the fan opens, not after. The middle frame is the flash you cannot read — once it looks like that, the decision has already been made for you.
How to fight him
Why the usual rhythm never starts
Most fights in this game are built on a loop: he throws something, you read the flash, you answer it, you get a turn.
The Archer breaks that loop in three ways:
- He never closes distance. He back-hops as you approach, so the gap never closes on your terms.
- Every arrow knocks you back. Even the hits you see coming push you out of range, and the pushing is the real damage — it resets your approach every time.
- There is no blue-flash attack. Almost nothing he does is parryable, so you cannot manufacture a Ghoststep window. His only red-flash is a close-range grab, and he rarely uses it because he is never close.
The result is a fight that looks like a stalling match until you notice he has no answer to being shot at.
The eye, once you break him
Break his Sha-Chi once and he escalates. He charges in the centre of the arena and fires a red laser — one of the hardest single hits in the game, and it ignores guard entirely.
Three answers, in order of reliability:
- Run to the arena edge before it fires. The beam sweeps outward; standing where it starts is the worst place to be.
- A large shield. Held up, it stops the beam.
- Jump the outer waves. The laser spreads across the floor, so the edges still need a hop rather than a guard.
Blocking is the whole exam
Everything before the laser is arrow pressure, and the fight grades your guard rather than your damage. He fires constantly, so the answer is a held guard and short punishes, not long combos that leave you standing in the open when the next volley starts.
Two ways to win
Out-shoot him
Take the One-Eyed Bow — his own drop — and fight him at his own range. With a ranged accessory set built for projectile damage, the fight inverts: he back-hops into your line instead of out of it.
This is the build that makes the encounter close to free, and the same setup carries into several later bosses that also refuse to close distance.
Mitigate and grind
If you would rather stay melee:
- The anti-arrow charm cuts ranged damage — the single biggest quality-of-life item for this fight. It is a quest reward, not a drop, so pick it up before you sail out.
- Close the gap during his reload beat. He has a pause after a volley; that is the only window where the back-hop does not fire.
