Iron Fiend and Jade Dancer boss guide: survive the 1v2

Mu Xiaokui's guardians only appear after her first two phases, and they fight as a pair. Keep both on screen, isolate the Iron Fiend, parry the purple combo.

FAQ

How do you unlock Iron Fiend and Jade Dancer?
Finish the Young Mistress questline and defeat Mu Xiaokui in her first two phases. They do not appear as a standalone arena fight before that.
Who should you kill first in the 1v2?
The Iron Fiend, generally. His moveset is aggressive enough that he closes the distance on his own, which makes him easier to isolate from the Jade Dancer than the reverse.
How do you parry the combined attack?
It is a three-hit string telegraphed by purple effects around the Jade Dancer's blade. Block the first two, then perfect parry the blue glint third hit for a Ghoststep. Both bosses can also use the string solo.
What are their grab attacks?
Four red glint grabs: Jade Dancer's horizontal scissor kicks, plus Iron Fiend's whirlwind dash, tactical retreat and surprise kicks. Surprise kicks is the fastest and has almost no wind-up — that is the one that catches people.

Getting in

They are not a boss you walk up to. Finish the Young Mistress questline and take Mu Xiaokui through her first two phases — the pair engages as her third phase, which is also why the roster lists them as a separate entry rather than a separate arena.

If you are stuck at Mu Xiaokui’s second phase, that is the gate, not this fight.

The 1v2 problem

Two aggressive movesets at once is a camera problem before it is a damage problem. Three habits carry the fight:

  1. Both on screen, always. Use directional dodges to reposition rather than neutral dodges — every dodge should move you somewhere you can still see both.
  2. Never stand between them. That is where the unreactable hits come from.
  3. Pick a target and commit. The fight gets dramatically easier the moment one is down. Splitting damage just keeps both alive longer.

Kill the Iron Fiend first

He is the easier one to isolate, because his own aggression brings him to you. Let the Jade Dancer fall behind for a beat, take the Iron Fiend’s health down, then turn around.

The combined attack

When they are close together they can start a three-hit combined string, telegraphed by prominent purple effects around the Jade Dancer’s blade.

Block the first two hits to find the rhythm, then perfect parry the blue glint third for a Ghoststep. That parry is the biggest single opening in the fight — worth more than any combo you could land otherwise.

The four grabs

Boss Move Read
Jade Dancer Horizontal scissor kicks Clear wind-up, red glint
Iron Fiend Whirlwind dash Clear wind-up, red glint
Iron Fiend Tactical retreat Backstep into a grab
Iron Fiend Surprise kicks Fastest grab, almost no cue

Dodge on the red glint, then counter with Ghoststep — that is where the damage comes from, not from trading hits.

Surprise kicks is the one to drill. It has almost no startup, it comes out of neutral, and it is the single most common reason this fight ends early.

Gear

Slot Pick Why
Main weapon Fast, high guard-break Two targets; you need short commits
Phantom Edge Anything ranged Chip while repositioning
Accessory Sha-Chi or guard-break pick No mounted target here — Cavalrybane’s bonus is dead
Defence Directional dodge only Neutral dodges leave you blind

Long combos are a liability in a 1v2. Pick weapons you can swing twice and walk away from.

Rewards

Fiend Saws and Fist Fragment: Core, plus Puppet No. 44’s Eye — the crafting pieces the pair guards.

Notes

  • Locked behind the quest. No quest, no fight.
  • Both in frame. Directional dodges, not neutral.
  • Kill the Iron Fiend first. He isolates himself.
  • Purple = three hits, parry the third.
  • Surprise kicks has no tell. Assume it is coming out of neutral.
