Getting there

The temple sits at the summit of the Mountain of Imprisonment — the shrine of the Lady of the Veil, at the top of the climb rather than in the ruins below it.

You reach it on the Herald’s Illusion quest line rather than by exploring into it, so follow the marker instead of hunting for a side path.

Moves and how to answer them

How to fight him

The health bar changes, and so does the fight

Huangxing is two encounters stacked into one. The first bar reads Huangxing, the Kunlun Renegade: he stays grounded, mixes sword and guillotine, and everything he does can be blocked or parried. The second bar reads Huangxing, the Whirling Executioner, and it opens with three bulldozing lunges while the arena fills with climbing poles.

Treat them as separate fights. The first phase is a patience test — hold guard, answer the glints, do not chase him around the temple. The second phase is where the arena itself becomes part of your kit.

One attack in his kit does not flash

Every strike he throws is telegraphed by a red or blue flash, and you can learn the whole first phase by answering those. The exception is the lasso, and it is the one that decides how the phase ends: it drains a large chunk of Sha-Chi, and walking into the rest of the fight with an empty bar is worse than the damage itself.

That is why the first phase is patience rather than aggression. Every parry you spend answering a flash is a parry you will not have when the lasso comes out.

The dark phase is a blocking test with one exception

At some point in phase two the arena goes dark and he runs a long series of hits. Almost all of them are blockable. The exception is a faint white light — that is the Sha-Chi drain, and it has to be dodged.

So the dark phase is not a damage window for him, it is a guard-holding test: keep the guard up, ignore the dark, and move only when the white light shows.

The moment the scenery brightens again, he leaps. That is a parryable high leap and it is your best opening in the phase — stop attacking on the brightening and set the parry.

Climb the poles, but stand close first

In phase two the arena is ringed with poles. Time a climb while the flying guillotine is charging in the air and the slam misses you completely, leaving you free to drop into a jump attack.

The catch is the prompt: you have to be right next to the pole for it to appear. If Huangxing is standing between you and the pole, all it does is block your view of his next move — so only commit to a climb when he is already busy with the guillotine.

Rewards

Flying Guillotine — a Phantom Edge, and the wheel he throws at you at range during the fight.

The kill also moves the Herald’s Illusion quest line along, which is the gate in front of Secrets at the Heart of the Lake.

FAQ

Where is Huangxing in Phantom Blade Zero?
In the Lady of the Veil's temple at the summit of the Mountain of Imprisonment. You meet him during the Herald's Illusion quest line, which the Secrets at the Heart of the Lake quest depends on.
Why does Huangxing's name change mid-fight?
He has two phases with separate health bars. The first reads Huangxing, the Kunlun Renegade; the second reads Huangxing, the Whirling Executioner, and it opens with the arena ringed by poles.
What does Huangxing drop?
The Flying Guillotine, a Phantom Edge. It is the wheel he throws at range during the fight.
What are the poles in Huangxing's second phase for?
Climbing. Time a climb while the flying guillotine is charging its slam and you avoid the damage entirely, then drop into a jump attack. Stand too close to the pole and the prompt never appears.
