FAQ

Where is Master Bi Yuan in Phantom Blade Zero?
Village of Lu, in the statue grounds. From the Three Puppets Well, follow the path to the Grand Corridor Bridge, clear the red thread barrier, cross into the next village and take the right fork to the Statue Grounds bell.
Why does attacking Master Bi Yuan get me punished?
Two reasons. He blocks frequently and counters out of it, and he has a dedicated parry stance that fully deflects your hit and leaves you open. Stop swinging the moment his guard comes up.
What is Master Bi Yuan's parryable attack?
A vertical slash with a blue glint — his only parryable move. It has a distinct wind-up pose before the glint, whether he uses it neutral or as a combo finisher. Perfect parry it for a Ghoststep.
What does Master Bi Yuan drop?
The Tianxuan Bronze Sword, a heavy blunt blade, plus story progression through Heartless Remnants.

Getting there

From the Three Puppets Well, follow the path out to the Grand Corridor Bridge, clear the red thread barrier on the right-hand building, cross into the next stretch of village, and take the right fork at the split to ring the Statue Grounds bell. The fight triggers when you walk in.

Why “easiest boss” is a trap

Bi Yuan is slow, has low aggression, and does not chase. Every guide calls him one of the easiest fights in Village of Lu, and on paper he is.

The catch is that he is the first boss who punishes you for attacking. Two mechanics do it:

  1. He blocks. Mid-combo, his guard comes up, and a counter follows. Keep swinging and the counter lands.
  2. He has a parry stance. Hit him during it and he deflects the attack completely, leaving you open for a punish.

So the fight rewards restraint, not pressure. If you are coming off Bai Chilian’s teleport chase, this is the opposite rhythm.

How to fight him

Stop on his guard

The moment his blade comes up in guard, stop attacking and reset. You lose nothing by waiting — he is not going to close the distance on you. What you lose by continuing is the whole combo plus a counter.

If you do get parried, there is a short window right after where you can still block or dodge his counter. Take it instead of eating the follow-up.

The one parryable move

His vertical slash carries a blue glint and is his only parryable attack. It comes either standalone or as a combo finisher, and the tell is a distinct wind-up pose right before the glint flashes.

Perfect parry it for a Ghoststep, then take your damage. This is the largest opening the fight offers.

The two unblockables

Move What it looks like
Hand parry into counter He deflects with his left hand, then a red glint counter
Leaping slash He jumps in from long range with a vertical cut

The leaping slash is easy to read because it is the only move in his kit where he attacks out of the air. See the jump, wait for the red glint, dodge late, and the perfect dodge opens a Ghoststep.

Gear

Slot Pick Why
Main weapon Outlaw Warblade Heals on hit; sustains a long pressure fight
Phantom Edge Iron Gauntlets Charged hit knocks him out of guard
Second weapon Fast pair Builds Sha-Chi Essence between pushes
Defence Block the counter, dodge the leap Only one move is parryable

The loop that works: build Essence on a fast weapon, spend it on the gauntlets to break his guard, then heal-and-hit with the Warblade while he is off balance.

Rewards

Tianxuan Bronze Sword — a heavy blunt blade with diamond-pattern inlay. Slow, but it hits like a door.

Notes

  • Guard up = stop. This single habit removes most of the damage you take here.
  • Never attack into the parry stance. The deflection is total.
  • One blue glint only — the vertical slash. Parry it.
  • He attacks from the air exactly once. That is the leaping slash.
  • He does not chase. Backing off costs you nothing.
