FAQ

Where is Master Bi Hai in Phantom Blade Zero?
Village of Lu, past the Smuggler's Tunnel. Work down from the Smuggler's Vault to the courtyard at the bottom, take the stone arch into the passage, ring the Smuggler's Tunnel Entrance bell and head into the open area beside it.
Why won't Master Bi Hai's Bronze Men take damage?
They are enchanted with bronze skin that stops flinching until it breaks. Guard damage is the answer — high Guard Break weapons and heavy hits strip it. Chip damage just bounces.
Does Master Bi Hai attack during the adds?
Not in the first wave. He stays inside the bell while you clear all three, which is exactly the window to do it. The second wave is different: the three carry weapons and he adds ranged attacks from inside.
What does Master Bi Hai drop?
Kuye Temple Prayer Beads, a summon-type accessory reward, plus story progression through Heartless Remnants.

Getting there

From the Smuggler’s Vault, follow the path all the way down to the courtyard, take the stone arch into the passage, ring the Smuggler’s Tunnel Entrance bell, and walk into the open area beside it.

There is a quest step before the fight: hand over the smuggler’s manual you picked up in the smuggler camp and you get an anti-arrow charm in return. Take it — his ranged attacks in the second wave hit harder than regular enemies, and the charm is the obvious insurance.

The shape of the fight

He does not fight you directly at first. A golden qi bell descends over him — it stops blades, fire and water — and three Bronze Men come out to do the work.

So the fight is two add phases wrapped around brief boss windows:

  1. Wave 1 — three unarmed Bronze Men. He does not attack at all.
  2. The bell breaks open — he comes out, an explosion rings the arena.
  3. Wave 2 — three armed Bronze Men plus his ranged attacks from inside the bell.

How to fight him

Wave 1: it is free, use it

He stays passive for the entire first wave. That is not a lull, it is the designed window — clear all three adds without pressure, because wave 2 will not be this kind to you.

The Bronze Men have bronze skin: they do not flinch and take almost nothing until it breaks. Guard damage is what breaks it. High Guard Break weapons and heavy hits do the job; fast chip damage bounces off.

Do not let them surround you

Three enemies plus a boss means at least one of them is behind you. Use dodges to reposition, not just to avoid hits — pull them into a line, keep the bell in view, and accept a slower clear over a blind-sided one.

Wave 2: watch the bell

The second trio carry weapons, and his ranged attacks now join in from inside the bell. Those ranged hits are noticeably heavier than the melee adds — do not treat them as background noise.

Same rule as wave 1: break the bronze skin with guard damage, clear the adds, then take the boss window when the bell opens.

The shout

His one unblockable is a red glint shout. The hitbox activates a moment after the glint, so a slightly delayed dodge lands the perfect dodge and opens the counter.

Gear

Slot Pick Why
Main weapon High Guard Break The only thing that strips bronze skin
Main weapon Outlaw Warblade Guard damage plus healing through two add waves
Accessory Anti-arrow charm Covers the wave-2 ranged damage
Defence Reposition, do not corner yourself Three adds will flank you

The Outlaw Warblade is the comfortable pick here: it does the guard damage you need and refunds the chip damage you take across two long waves.

Rewards

Kuye Temple Prayer Beads — a summon accessory, and the reason several later multi-enemy fights stop being a scramble.

Notes

  • Wave 1 is a free window. He does not attack. Clear fast.
  • Bronze skin needs guard damage. Fast weapons do nothing until it breaks.
  • Wave 2 adds ranged pressure. The armed trio is not the only threat.
  • The shout is delayed. Dodge a beat after the red glint.
  • Double dodge is legal on the shout. Do not panic when the first one misses.
