Hua Qianxiao boss guide: interrupt the drink, or kite the bridge
Hua Qianxiao turns his Sha-Chi into a shield every time he drinks. Break the gourd charge with the Dread Axe, or run the bridge and let the shield drain on its own.

Getting there
From Crimson Forest, follow the abandoned road out to Pangzhen Bridge Overlook and ring the bell. He is standing on the bridge next to it, drinking. The arena is the bridge itself, and that shape is what makes the second strategy below work.
The gimmick: the gourd is armour
Every time Hua Qianxiao drinks, his Sha-Chi becomes shield value. Hitting him during the drink does not stagger him, it just chews the shield. When the drink finishes he knocks you back, and the shield turns back into Sha-Chi that then drains slowly on its own.
That single mechanic decides the whole fight: you either stop the drink, or you use the drain.
Route A — break the gourd with the Dread Axe
The Dread Axe Phantom Edge interrupts the charge outright. Time a charged hit into the wind-up, before the two-hit AoE lands.
If you miss the timing, he stays in his drunken stance and gets more aggressive, which is exactly the state you cannot trade with. Missing is not neutral; it is a punishment.
Route B — run the bridge and let the shield drain
The passive answer, and the one that does not require learning his strings:
- When he starts drinking, run to the far end of the bridge.
- Wait. He follows, and his Sha-Chi — now restored from the shield — drains while he closes the distance.
- When the bar bottoms out, step in and break him.
- He drinks again. Repeat.
It is slow and it is boring, and it works. Bring your weapon up to a reasonable level first; the loop only closes if your punish actually hurts.
What he does when you fight him properly
The five-flurry opener
He bends backwards, lunges, and throws five blockable flurries. Block them, then wait for the glint on the next hit — that one is either a parry or a dodge depending on the colour. Blocking the flurries alone drains his stagger bar slowly, which is the safe way to make progress.
The ground pin
He can pin you to the ground. The pin itself barely hurts, but he recovers a little and refills part of his stagger bar during it. What matters is what follows: a cinematic sword throw that is lethal if you are still on the floor. Dodge the follow-up, not the pin.
Why the stagger keeps slipping
His stagger bar recovers faster than most bosses. That is the argument for fast weapons between his strings — a slow heavy that lands after the bar has already ticked back up is wasted.
Gear
| Slot | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Phantom Edge | Dread Axe | Interrupts the gourd charge; the whole Route A plan |
| Main weapon | Jagged Steel | Bleed, plus Rampage on the full stagger |
| Second weapon | Sanguine Twin | Fast hits while his stagger bar is recovering |
| Phantom Edge | Hunter’s Chain Sickle | Pull him back when he drifts out of reach |
| Prep | Level weapons to 5 at the nearby bell | The punish has to actually land |
Rewards
The Fanatic’s Broken Blade — story weapon reward from the Snake’s Reflection path.
Notes
- Drinking = shield. Do not read his bar as a stagger bar while the gourd is up.
- The interrupt does not need a full charge. Blue glint is the threshold.
- Dodge the throw after the pin, not the pin itself.
- His stagger bar ticks back up fast. Short weapons, quick punishes.
- The bridge is the strategy. Route B is legitimate; the arena is built wide for a reason.
