Getting there
The arena is not on the map. Interact with the Mirage Estate long pillar in Pangzhen and the ground opens into a hidden fighting space — the pillar is the door, so if you cannot find a path in, you have not found the pillar yet.
It belongs to the Bloodline Awakening chain, the same five-pillar sequence that runs through the rest of the late game.
Moves and how to answer them
- 01
Right Slash into Somersault
How to answer: A right slash that flows straight into a three-hit somersault. Parry the opening slash on the weapon flash, then keep guard up through the somersault — the third hit is where his rhythm breaks.

- 02
Sideways Roll Attack
How to answer: He rolls in from the side and swings out of the roll. Parry on the flash instead of backing away — the roll covers ground fast enough that retreating only buys you the arena wall.

- 03
Sword Throw into Mid-Air Roll
How to answer: He throws the sword, then rolls through the air after it. Dodge the throw and keep your eyes up — the roll is the hit that actually lands, and it comes from above rather than from the blade.

- 04
Quick Elbow
How to answer: A short elbow with almost no wind-up. Dodge rather than block — it comes out too fast to read a flash, and eating it costs the Sha-Chi you were saving for the next parry.

- 05
Long-Range Kick
How to answer: He kicks from well outside melee range. Treat it as a gap-closer and sidestep on the plant rather than the swing — the reach is longer than the animation suggests, so backing off does not clear it.

- 06
Giant Sword Drop
How to answer: He summons flaming swords overhead, throws three blockable slashes, then drops them. Hold guard through the slashes, then look at the ground — sidestep the circular markers instead of trying to parry the drop.

How to fight him
Every opening comes from a Ghoststep
Mo Yuan is one of the most aggressive fights in the game. He chains short strings into each other with almost no dead time, and if you stand at range waiting for a gap, you will stand there until the arena kills you.
The only reliable way in is Ghoststep — a perfect dodge or a parry that staggers him. So the loop is: hold block, watch the weapon, react on the flash, then dump everything you have into the two or three seconds you just bought.
Do not start an attack before that window opens. A half-finished swing is how you eat the next string with your guard down.
The Sha-Chi drain greys the screen
His draining combo has a fixed three-beat shape: a straight head strike, a jump attack, then a quick dash. The screen desaturates when it starts, which is the most generous tell in the fight.
Dodge all three. He can repeat the dash afterwards, so keep the guard up until he stops rather than assuming the third hit ends it.
The ear strike has no flash
One attack in his kit breaks the rule. The cupped-hand ear strike arrives without a red or blue flash, does not drain your stagger bar, and simply stuns you for about two seconds.
There is no read to learn — only the wind-up of his hand coming up beside your head. Step back when you see it, and accept that this is the one hit in the fight you will occasionally eat.
What the fight is actually asking
Two of his movesets are long and fixed — the draining combo and the flaming swords — and both punish panic more than they punish greed. Everything else is a short string that ends in a flash.
So the plan is not to survive the whole kit. It is to recognise which of the two long sequences is starting, clear it without spending Sha-Chi, and bank every Ghoststep you earn for the short strings where he is actually vulnerable.
Rewards
Bastion of Mo Mask — a Soul Temper item, and the reason the long-pillar chain is worth finishing.
